JAV 113 Great Organ Builders, Volume 8 — Stuart Forster

Dvorak’s New World Symphony, arranged by Forster, is simply ravishing, and a very appropriate choice to honor Skinner’s life-long quest of creating an instrument emulating the expressive potential of the orchestra. With Opus 820, we witness Skinner re-asserting his individual style, while coming to terms with G. Donald Harrison’s plans to make fundamental changes in the artistic direction of the Skinner style. This organ is the finest remaining unaltered example of Skinner’s mature style, and Forster knows how to make it sing. His transcription of Percy Grainger’s "Blithe Bells" is an absolute delight.
