This disc was recorded in April of 2010 at the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris by the brilliant young organist Johann Vexo. Johann is the organist of the Choir Organ and is one of the five organists at the cathedral. He was granted this position in 2004 and also teaches organ at the Conservatoire National de Region de Angers. The compositions on the CD span the 19th to 21st centuries and show off all of the colors of this great instrument. The CD was recorded by the noted sound engineer Christoph Frommen for JAV Recordings. In total 8 microphones were used, 6 hung from a cable in the nave and 2 in the transept. The booklet has notes by Stephen Tharp both in French and English, it also contains many photographs from the recording sessions as well as the exterior of this most beautiful cathedral. The sound is very true, clear, balanced but with plenty of ambiances and the playing is breath taking.
