Description
JAV 118 Great Organ Builders, Volume 9 Ken Cowan
A sparkling rendition of the Scherzo from Mendelssohns "A Midsummer Nights Dream" is among a bevy of transcriptions on this disc, including selections from the operatic realm and a classic Sousa march. Willans "Introduction, Passacaglia, and Fugue," composed in 1916, finds eloquent expression in the resources of Skinner Opus 475 (built in 1926), which Jonathan Ambrosino describes as the "quintessential Skinner." The disposition of its 68 ranks points towards a greater tonal brilliance coupled with Skinners characteristically rich reeds which became a hallmark of Skinner and Aeolian-Skinner organs through the mid-1930s.
